saki newsletter 11/25/14 and RSD Black Friday!

Oh boy, lots to get to this week, so let's get right to it! First, we'd like to offer a huge thanks to all the performers and people who came out for Freak Happening and the Onsoru showcase this weekend!

Second, we're very excited to announce that the vinyl reissues of The Handsome Family's Singing Bones and Through The Trees have arrived! Their official release date is 12/2, but you can pick them up at saki on Black Friday! These reissues have been a long time coming - pretty much since we found out that "Far From Any Road" would be the opening theme to HBO's True Detective - and after multiple manufacturing delays they're here. They're finally here!

*** UPDATE: We just found out that all copies of Through The Trees were shipped without the liner note inserts. TTT sales will be held until the inserts arrive. Sorry! ***

Speaking of Black Friday, saki will be open for regular store hours, and yes we will have many of the Record Store Day Black Friday releases. In addition to the Handsome Family reissues we will have a few other special promotions. We'll let you know more about those on Friday morning, so while you're waiting in line at Reckless, or Permanent, or Laurie's make sure you check our Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook for updates!

We also have another installment of Important Records coming up this Saturday. This time around we've got Brandon Wetherbee and Rock Falls talking about and playing songs from PJ Harvey's Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea, Christy LeMaster and REINS on Neutral Milk Hotel's In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, and Seth Vanek and Eiren Caffall on Songs: Ohia's Didn't It Rain! This show is starting a bit earlier than usual, at 3pm, so finish up your brunch and head over here.

Here are a few things we were posting about on Instagram this past week:

Ticket Giveaways:

Buy a release from any band playing an upcoming Empty Bottle, Schubas or Lincoln Hall show and we can add you to the guest list. A lot of upcoming shows are no longer eligible, but it never hurts to ask. Stop in or give us a call! Keep an eye out for announcements for eligible Metro and Bottom Lounge shows too!

Spotify listening station:

These days record stores don't get a ton of promos from bands and labels like the good ol' days, but we know that you still want a chance to listen to a lot of things before you make the decision to buy. To help you out with that we've created a Spotify Listening Station in the store. Sounds fancy, right? It's not. We just bought a burner phone and put literally nothing on it but the Spotify app!

If you find yourself flipping through the racks and you realize that you'd like to listen to something before you buy it, just ask at the counter and we'll pull out some headphones and Burnice (that's what we named our burner phone) so you can have a listen!
