Weekly new release sale:

This week we've got Krakatau, Soft Walls and Circles for 20% off!

Krakatau - Water Near A Bridge LP

Krakatau seemingly have their origins before recorded history, emerging from the primordial ooze and lurching towards your turntable like a creature out of Lovecraftian fiction. The guitar-less trio utilize organ, bass and drums to communicate their message crafting dense and heady tunes sprung from the seeds of improvisation and honed to perfection in the studio.

Soft Walls - No Time CD and LP

Brighton, UK's Dan Reeves is a busy guy. In addition to running his own label and playing in the band Cold Pumas, he also records under the moniker "Soft Walls". These 10 songs are meditations on the passing of time itself and the pre-concieved notions (both external and internal) of what you can and should be doing with it. Filled with avant-leaning psych drones, dreamy guitar ragas, motorik head-boppers, and pop tunes that shimmer enticingly, these are songs to get lost in; to discover and re-discover. Don't worry - there's plenty of time.

Circles - Shadowgraph LP

There's a refreshing purity to these recordings, a purity borne out of friendship and love of musical self expression done for its own sake. Featuring members of THE PONYS, RADAR EYES, FOOTBALL, and so many more, this purity of purpose shines through in a prismatic and jaunty guitar/organ driven swirl of pensive post-pop.

Weekly new release sale!

Each week saki will be offering a handful of new releases for 20% OFF! You can check the blog, Facebook, Twitter, or our newsletter, to find out which titles will be discounted. We'll choose 2-3 titles each week and they'll be discounted for their entire first week of release!

Essential listening: Song Exploder

Song Exploder is a new-ish podcast from Hrishikesh Hirway (of the One AM Radio) that asks musicians to deconstruct one of their songs to show us how it was conceived, produced, orchestrated, etc. It sounds so simple, and really it is, but it's a truly fascinating podcast. We strongly recommend checking it out!

Some of best episodes are with Jimmy Tamborello (DNTEL, The Postal Service), Phil Elverum (The Microphones, Mount Eerie) and Jeff Beal (composer of the House of Cards theme song).

You can find out more at songexploder.net

Oh, and we discovered this podcast via the 99% Invisible design podcast, which is also a must hear!

Los Saicos: ¡Demolición! The Complete Recordings LP reissue

Ok, so this is one of those times when we tell you that a record we have in stock is absolutely essentially... the quote on the sleeve says it all:

'Who ever thought there could be a combo out there in Peru, 1965 that would make The Sonics sound like Simon and bloody Garfunkel?'

This is the Los Saicos singles comp. (they never released a full album) that has been on CD, cassette and 10" box set. Now it's available as a single LP and it. is. killer. The record includes a 12 pg. booklet with liner notes in Spanish and English, plus many unseen photos!

Just in: Lewis, Reigning Sound, Marcos Valle, Viet Cong and more!

saki newsletter 7/15!

Holy moly, what a weekend! We had Important Records, Morgan Sims' opening reception, The Caribbean's in-store and our friends at the Comedy Exposition kept it going all weekend with one amazing show after another. We're so happy and so exhausted. Let's keep it going!

We're not doing much in the store this weekend, but that's for a very good reason - we'll be selling records at PITCHFORK MUSIC FESTIVAL all weekend! Come say hi to us in the CHIRP Record Fair tent. We. Want. To. Party. With. You.

Also, because of all the craziness this past week, we did not have time to film and edit a vlogcastisode. If you can forgive us, please check back next week. We promise we'll get back in the swing of things soon!

In the meantime, you should spend your Tuesday listening to some of the awesome records on NPR's First Listen and Pitchfork Advance, including the new White Fence, Joyce Manor, The Amazing Snakeheads, Morrissey, and Braid. Hours of good music will hopefully make up for the 2 minute whole we've left in your day by not posting a vlogcastisode.
