Thoughts on "Inception"

While I realize that I'm usually out of step with received opinion, it really must be said: Chris Nolan's "Inception" is, to my mind, the most ludicrously overhyped movie since, well..."The Dark Knight". The Nolan fanboys have been out in full force: "Inception" has already been voted the 3rd greatest movie of all time on imdb.com -- right behind "The Godfather" and "The Shawshank Redemption". This review addresses nearly all of my problems with the film, including my main complaint: the endless, tedious exposition, punctuated only by badly staged/blocked action sequences. I don't think Nolan is a hack (yet) -- "The Prestige" in particular has some modest virtues -- but the idea that this overheated mess of a film --which feels like some bizarre amalgam of "Existenz" and "The Matrix" -- is the 3rd greatest movie of all time is simply ridiculous.
