This weekend at saki!

Here's what you're doing this weekend:

Friday night we have the art opening & record release show for Sonnenzimmer's Free Jazz Bitmaps Vol. 1! Sonnenzimmer is Nadine Nakanishi & Nick Butcher. Mentored by Jay Ryan, they've become a well-known entity in their own right, with their abstract show posters & art prints highlighted by a broad color scheme & unique use of space.

Free Jazz Bitmaps is a process-based art & music project. The record consists of original songs by Nick Butcher that have been reinterpreted by local musicians, including Jason Adasiewicz, Tim Daisy, Keefe Jackson, Mike Reed, Jason Roebke & Jason Stein. There will be live performances from Nick & a group led by Katherine Young, along with Joann Cho & Jenna Lyle.

The Free Jazz Bitmaps series also includes a set of 5 large scale prints with musical notations from the performers on the album with some added artistic contribution from Sonnenzimmer. This show isn't all about Free Jazz though, people. We've got some other Sonnenzimmer prints for sale as well, and may we say they look absolutely beautiful on our walls! Well, we're gonna. We just did. That's that.

On Sunday we've got another Epitonic saki Session with The Right Now and Jon Drake & The Shakes! The Right Now play updated rock & soul in the same vein as JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound or Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. Jon Drake & The Shakes are a bit more countrified, but they've got the same rock energy as The Right Now. This is going to be a really good showcase for some of the better local bands out there right now. Come on out and support!
