This week we've got the new Benoit Pioulard, The Men, and Dead C vs Rangda for 20% off!
Benoit Pioulard - Hymnal CD and LP
4th Kranky album by Thomas Meluch, aka Benoit Pioulard. Raised as a Catholic but never especially pious, Meluch drew on this aspect of social history as the basis for the albums' 12 chapters. He notes a particular preoccupation with the ways that faith offers a sense of solace & belonging in an existence that inherently provides none, framed in a context of tradition, ritual & the notion of the eternal. Also featured are string arrangements by Kranky label mate Felix & guitar work from ambient maestro Kyle Bobby Dunn.
The Men - New Moon CD and LP
Simultaneously an expansion of palette and a contradiction of focus, hedged with as much leaden dirge and ecstatic abandon as it is genuine saccharine steel string levity and an ever-tightening no apologies pop concision. Read: this may not sound like The Men you know, but it's still pretty badass!
Dead C vs Rangda - S/T LP
Split album between US & New Zealand "supergroups." DEAD C tracks date to the late '80s & are outtakes from the sessions for their Eusa Kills album. RANGDA tracks were recorded recently at Russian Recording in Bloomington, Indiana
