Verma - Sunrunner CD and LP

The swirling, layered loops of Johnny Caluya's guitar mesh seamlessly with the interstellar drones and throbs ebbing from Whitney Johnson's Acetone, but the real secret weapon of "Sunrunner" lies in the rhythm section of bassist Rob Goerke and drummer Zach Corn's locked-tight grooves that pulse steadily and subtly like all great rhythm sections are supposed to, providing a rubbery backbone that supports the albums' seven tunes. Highly recommended!

Nones and Cretin Stompers have been delayed. They will be 20% off when they arrive!

Ex-Cult - Midnight Passenger LP

The sophomore album from this Memphis five-piece adds a few layers of pyschedelic slime to their sound.

Carl Hultgren - Tomorrow LP

It is instantly apparent to any long time listener of WINDY and CARL that these new tracks show a marked change from the 20 years of dense guitar drones and walls of sound the duo have released. Carl's 1st solo album is instead a lighter, more stripped down affair. Ltd to 350 in hand letterpressed sleeve w/ download code for 6 additional bonus songs recorded during the same sessions.

Split Single - Fragmented World LP

Debut release from an absolute-no-holds-barred-indie-supergroup made up of Britt Daniel (SPOON, DIVINE FITS), Jason Narducy (BOB MOULD, VERBOW, SUPERCHUNK, TELEKINESIS) and drummer/funny man extraordinaire, Mr. Jon Wurster (SUPERCHUNK, MOUNTAIN GOATS, BOB MOULD).

This week, to celebrate Hozac Blackout Fest, we're offering ALL Hozac titles for 20% off! Here are just a few we recommend...

The People's Temple - Musical Garden CD and LP

A collective of songs put together w/ vastly different styles, due to the sheer abundance of material, yet an impressively cohesive arrangement of their always expanding musical strains.

Ruined Fortune - S/T CD and LP

Heavy-glitter/garbage punk moves from members of SOUTHERN COMFORT, BED WETTIN' BAD BOYS, CIRCLE PIT, MODEL CITIZEN, and countless more. An album that has an agenda similar to LIVE, SINGLES, UNRELEASED-era ROYAL TRUX or the first couple of ALTERNATIVE TV records in its love of rock'n'roll while simultaneously aiming for something beyond.

Epicycle - You're Not Gonna Get It: 78-81 CD and LP

Like a snotty bottle rocket shout out of The Damned's dressing room and straight into the gut of Cheap Trick, these sorely underappreciated teen punk pioneers were angry, young, and unstoppable. This comp presents the original punch the band was trying to deliver w/ 3 incredible singles and tracks from their sole LP, along with some pre-razored demos from their earliest sessions.

saki newsletter 5/13/14!

Hey, guys! Wow! What a weekend! We had another Once In A Lifetime at Comfort Station where we got to see Kaley Cuoco in a fat suit and Caroline Rhea totally pretending to be her aunt for that sweet Lifetime paycheck. PLUS we had an in-store/record release party with Chris Kramer from Slushy and Luke Tokyo Drifter (Kenny from Magic Milk). We were celebrating the release of Slushy's new LP and cassette on Grabbing Clouds. You can now purchase that record, plus a few other Grabbing Clouds tapes from saki! Also, we had pizza! PIZZA, you guys!

This weekend we have in-store with Royal Pines and Crippled Masters featuring a reading by Leslie Parry from her new book Church of Marvels! You don't even have to read it. She'll read it TO YOU.

We're beyond excited to announce that saki is presenting a show with Nat Baldwin and Pillars and Tongues at Constellation on May 29th! If you've followed saki for a while now you know we're BIG fans of Pillars and Tongues. It's just a cherry on top for us that Nat Baldwin (from Dirty Projectors) is headlining this show! Nat's new solo record In The Hollows has been on repeat around here and we were big fans of his older records, People Changes and MVP, as well! If you purchase any of Nat's or Pillars and Tongues' records we can add you do the guest list while our spots last! Buy a record, see an awesome show for FREE. We are hooking the freak UP.

saki newsletter 5/6/14!

Sorry for the delay, friends! We had some technical difficulties with the vlogcastisode this week (read: YouTube is made of farts), but here it is - what you've all been waiting for - this week's newsletter and vlogcastisode!

We'd like to thank John Atwood, Daniel Knox, Ronnie Kuller, and everyone who came out for John's opening reception on Friday! "Watermill Works" will be up all this month and then some, so make sure you come check it out!

Did yous guys go to any CIMMFest stuff?? We saw Verma (their upcoming Trouble In Mind LP is KILLER) and Wrekmeister Harmones, plus some new films by Vincent Moon, and 20,000 Days On Earth, a fictional day in the life of Nick Cave. It was fun. What a great festival!

This Friday we're goofing on the Lifetime movie To Be Fat Like Me with comedians Katie McVay, Kristin Clifford, and Andy Fleming at Comfort Station. On Saturday we've got an in-store and record release show for Slushy with a solo set by Slushy's Chris Kramer and Luke Tokyo Drifter opening!

This week's vlogcastisode celebrates Helios, or Ra, or just sunshine in general. We've gone tropical, dudes! We've also got music from TEEN, Jeffertiti's Nile and Sleepyhead, and an update on upcoming Schubas and Lincoln Hall shows!

Upcoming events:

Friday, May 9th, 8pm @ Comfort Station
saki and Everything Is Terrible present Once In A Lifetime: To Be Fat Like Me with commentary by Katie McVay, Kristin Clifford and Andy Fleming!

Each week saki will be offering a handful of new releases for 20% OFF! This week we're offering Silkworm, Jeffertiti's Nile and Sleepyhead!

Silkworm - Libertine LP reissue

Deluxe reissue of their 1994 LP, the 3rd and final full length record as a quartet. Double LP w/ bonus CD. Triple-threat songwriting, 2 cagey guitars circling the drain but never going under, a bassist whose axe looks like an oar and sounds like the metal cable of a suspension bridge, anchored by a drummer clad in little more than gardening gloves whose kick drum is the oversized kind favored by marching bands. All in all, a combination as heady as it was brainy. "Very few bands make even one great album. Silkworm made several, and this is the first." - Steve Albini

Jeffertiti's Nile - The Electric Hour LP

Jeffertitti plays bass in FATHER JOHN MISTY, and in fact, Father Misty plays drums on "The Electric Hour". "Transcendental Space-Punk Doo Wop" was once declared to be the name of this boundless sound, by the authority of Jeffertitti himself.

Sleepyhead - Wild Sometimes LP

1st new release in 15 years! Although born in the post-punk 90s, Sleepyhead has always had a heart that, in part, beats to classic American rock n roll - marrying unpretentious up-tempo tunes to extraordinary harmonized lyrics constructed by mature, but definitely not jaded sensibilities. With founding members Chris O'Rourke (guitar) and Rachael McNally (drums), Sleepyhead had quite the run in the golden age of Indie Rock, and the labels that released their music (Slumberland, Homestead, Sealed Fate) are a Who's Who of that era.

Weekly new release sale!

Each week saki will be offering a handful of new releases for 20% OFF! You can check the blog, Facebook, Twitter, or our newsletter, to find out which titles will be discounted. We'll choose 2-3 titles each week and they'll be discounted for their entire first week of release!
