Daytrottin' w/ Casiotone For The Painfully Alone

Not too long ago saki had the immense pleasure of hosting one of Casiotone For The Painfully Alone's last Chicago performances. The in-store, in case you weren't lucky enough to attend, was fantastic.

Recently, CFTPA and friends Otouto made a stop at the infamous Daytrotter "studios" and recorded the following sessions. Listen and download here.

You can visit our events page for the latest news on in-stores performances, art openings, and other events hosted by saki.

The Handsome Family @ Daytrotter!

In March, The Handsome Family stopped in to see the fellas at Daytrotter after a weekend of shows in Chicago. During their visit, they recorded four songs that are now available to you for free!! Check out the tunes, along with a cartoon portrait of the band, and a lovely description of Brett's ability to get under your skin with his voice.

"He sings in a way that makes you so wonderfully uncomfortable at times, the kind of voice and verve that you just cannot bring yourself to break from. It's outspoken and dark and it gives the songs something like a cross between gallows humor and a purist's remorse." —Sean Moeller, Daytrotter

Songs featured: "Linger, Let Me Linger," "Little Sparrows," "The Loneliness of Magnets," "Darling, My Darling"

Andrew Bird Plays The Handsome Family

To close out his show here in Chicago last night, Andrew chose to play his beautiful versions of two songs by Brett and Rennie. He does such fantastic versions of their songs. Here's Greg Kot's review and here's a link to the Daytrotter Session version of "The Giant of Illinois." You can find "Don't Be Scared" on his lovely album Weather Systems.
