Legendary NYC rock powerhouse UNSANE has completed work on its long awaited new album, titled "WRECK". Their seventh full length, it gets a March 20 release date via Jello Biafra's Alternative Tentacles label.
Recorded by the band and producer Andrew Schneider at Brooklyn's Translator Audio (Pelican, Keelhaul, etc.), "WRECK" is described by the label as "an unfettered burst of pent up emotions and frustrations channeled into song and an unflinching glance into a type of life others probably should not lead.... darkly abrasive and poetic music delivered with a fearsome intensity."
They will also team up with The Melvins for a 21 city tour that curiously includes DeKalb, IL but not Chicago. 8-P
Take a moment to consider the termite and to ponder the movements of The Handsome Family... Termite nests are nothing short of works of art. Their soaring spires are constructed with awe-inspiring symmetries. Why these insects build such gorgeous homes is a mystery, especially since termites are completely blind. It's amazing but true: termite nests can rise as high as twenty feet tall. These creatures work relentlessly. Each one carries a single grain of earth coated in saliva. They carefully glue their morsel in place then head down to find another. Considering the small size of termites, such a building is the equivalent of an 180-story skyscraper built by hand, brick by brick— yet termites only live about two years.

New album "All My Friends Are Funeral Singers" will be out October 6 on Dead Oceans, and Califone's Tim Rutili has also directed a film that will screen as they play during the upcoming tour. Its not the first time Califone has taken the mixed media approach to its artistic vision (Deceleration One & Two) but this will be a feature film and will be submitted to film festivals in 2010. Narrative involves a psychic whose Indiana home is haunted by members of The Bitter Tears. Or something like that, check it out here:
