saki love

Early and hopeful words are starting to appear about our horribly kept secret project...

Time Out Chicago
--I don't see us chipping away at anybody else. I think there's more than enough to go around if we do this right, and I expect us to fill a slightly different niche than anybody else in town, or else we would be going to a lot of trouble to cut off our own noses. Yes, the market has shrunk, but ten years ago everybody and their pickup was selling music. Now it's left to the people who are both passionate about it and have it together to serve the customers who really care.

Windy City Rock
--"Always refreshing to hear of new brick and mortar record stores." Yes it is!! We spent too many years making an ever-growing graveyard of account cards around here. We're happy to be a part of the indie store resurgence now that the big guys have again gotten bored crushing ants.

For those of you who are wondering, saki was our cat. She was the first present I ever gave the love of my life, and I am still convinced that without her we wouldn't be married today. I have long felt that she has been my guardian angel. Since cats can have short attention spans, I have always seen naming the the mail order business, and now the retail store, as a way to keep her benevolently interested and involved in our day to day affairs.

Believe it or not, she was also quite the musical connoisseur! If you sang off key, she would muster her strength from wherever she was in the house to track you down and politely tell you to pipe down. If that still didn't work, she would give you a light nip on the hand to impart her sincerity and sensitivity.

As her name is also the the alpha prefix for the catalog numbers on all Carrot Top Records releases—the cat number—she is also the integral part of my longest running inside joke, now publicly revealed. We have continued this theme by choosing the store colors and design.

Fingers crossed for more press soon! We can't wait for the buildout to end and the fun to begin.

See you starting Memorial Day Weekend!
