Phew! Allow us to catch out breath after such an awesome week last week! Low's Off The Record listening party can now be added to the long list of events we've done that we're going to call our favorite. We know, we know, you've heard that before, but if you were here, you know what we mean! What an incredible band, and what an incredible group of human beings. We all owe a huge thanks to Low, Jeff Tweedy, Marty Lennartz from XRT, Goose Island and DCASE for helping us bring this whole thing together! We can't wait to hear and see the recording from AV Club. In other news, we've got an in-store this weekend from An Aesthetic Anaesthetic and War Brides! AAA plays their own brand of instrumental post-rock that they've dubbed "Ghost Rock." Think: Fugazi, Pelican and Mogwai. They're bringing their friends War Brides along for the ride. Don't miss it! Later in the month, we've got another 'saki presents' show at The Burlington with Zelienople, Radere and petal (Scott Cortez) on the 23rd! This is one of the best lineups we've ever had the pleasure of putting together. It's going to be an amazing Saturday night vibe. Keep an eye out for Zelienople's recently record Epitonic saki Session too. We're hoping to have it up in advance of this show. The next day, we've got our first saki University event at the shop! We've invited our friends from Gaslight Coffee and the Recyclery to come out and teach us all a little bit about coffee roasting and preparation, as well as bike maintenance other tips. You're welcome to stay for both or either demonstration. You guys know the drill, there's always more to come at saki - Creative Control at the end of the month, another art show (this one's going to be CRAY), and a million other things coming in April. Keep on checking the blog, newsletter, Facebook and Twitter for more updates!

Inspired by the honesty of free improvisation, the band Refrigerator, ecstatic musics from around the world, & pre-war American folk traditions. Ltd to 250
STREET DATE 3/19. Solo project of Brian Chippendale, drummer for noise rock titans LIGHTNING BOLT & MINDFLAYER. His furious drumming style is ever present & instantly recognizable, but the pop element, which was explored in more contained ways on earlier solo releases, is more fully integrated. NO EUROPE
03/19 STREET DATE. 7" VINYL ONLY RELEASE. Refocusing on the sonic principles that they were striving for when they got their tight-ass sloppy shit together in the first place, DOPE BODY return with a 2 song single acting as a snapshot of a band taking care of business in lean, road dog stance, ready to fuck or run, whatever happens 1st. NON-RETURNABLE. NO EXPORT TO EU/UK.
03/19 STREET DATE. Members of EARTH, BORIS, SUNN, GHOST, WHITE HEAVEN, & JESSE SYKES & THE SWEET HEREAFTER & more collaborate to form Ensemble Pearl. There's a wash of twin-lead psych-proggery, a raft of tribal-beat sun worship, a passing rumble of neck-stretching, some delicate noise - blowing, a bit of float-&-drone & finally, a majestic drift into the deep waters of dub atmosphere. NON-RETURNABLE. NO EXPORT TO EU/UK/JAPAN.
03/19 STREET DATE. 2xLP VINYL VERSION. Members of EARTH, BORIS, SUNN, GHOST, WHITE HEAVEN, & JESSE SYKES & THE SWEET HEREAFTER & more collaborate to form Ensemble Pearl. Cosmic heavy amplified rock drops & ripples, auras radiate & expand into cloudforms, through which lightning bolts. Tides rise, the moons wax upon a place somewhere between Link Wray, "Hex"-era Earth & early Tangerine Dream. NON-RETURNABLE. NO EXPORT TO EU/UK
**EXCLUSIVE!! 03/19 STREET DATE. VINYL ONLY RELEASE LIMITED TO 300 QTY. Simple catchy songs with blistering qualls of feedback, sharp chiming guitars, rambunctious drums & bass, & Matthew & Emma's perfectly matched vocals. A beacon of hope in the saturated sea of "copycat" noise pop groups. Fireworks uphold the values from those special records from 1984-86, when bands like The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Shop Assistants, My Bloody Valentine, & Razorcuts changed our lives forever.
The expansion to a four piece means the garage-clatter of the spiritely pop songs of their debut have been replaced by a deeper, shadowy exercise in catharsis, driven by repetition, psychedelia & Dionysian crisis
Inspired by the 80s New Zealand & Australian indie pop scenes, DIY punk & Glasgow's own rich pop history (think The Vaselines, The Pastels). Like contemporaries Twerps & Sea Lions, they've joined a storied lineage of pop essentialists such as The Clean, The Bats & The Feelies - bands who eschew complexity for concision & never sacrifice melody to mere primitivism. NO EXPORT
Adorned as "Chicago's Best New Rock Duo" by the Chicago Reader, these critically acclaimed newcomers can't be contained by classification. Commonly connected w/ critical genres "garage" & "noise", Zach Hebert & Andrew Mosiman move beyond those confines to create winding pop gems that steadily shift between pulsating rhythms, unexpected fragmants, & unrestrained feedback
A hot pot of shoegaze & Krautrock bubbled through a psych filter, the band knows how to ride the edge of groove & gently cut back to spacey atmosphereics to superb effect. Spacier, poppier, heavier. Ltd to 500
Max Load were a punk band from a small river town, Belleville, IL, just a few miles from St. Louis. This release is comprised of all studio recordings from 1979-1983. The X-Rod 45 is included, along with 22 never before released 8-track and 50 track demos. The package includes a 14 song LP, a 24 song CD and a DVD that features a 20-son live performance, recorded for cabel access TV in 1981. There is also a double sided 11"x17" insert featuring numerous photos, gig posters and extensive liner notes.
STREET DATE 3/19. FLEXI DISC. "Now" is a 6-minute balls to the wall experiment. A far cry from their almost grunge-leaning studio albums, this is a mostly-instrumental, free-jazz-ish piece - showing that they are as opposed to musical convention as they are to dive bar security. NO CANADA/NO EXPORT. NO RETURNS
03/19 STREET DATE. 12" VINYL ONLY RELEASE. First of 2 dub-inspired remix 12"s on Drag City for OM. This, with "Addis" from "Advaitic Songs"& "Addis Dubplate" from Alpha & Omega. NON-RETURNABLE. NO EXPORT TO EU/UK
03/19 STREET DATE. "Water On Mars" reveals a center to the Hiss maelstrom, with Mike Polizze's guitars slugging, sizzling & spiraling their way around the rhythm throb, drawing from the wells of the 60s, 70s, 80s & 90s rock to inform their own sound. This is heavy stuff, unknotting the strings that tangled all their previous records together so righteously to reveal another, greater storm within. NO EXPORT TO EU/UK
03/19 STREET DATE. VINYL VERSION. With "Water On Mars", Purling Hiss have broken out of the basement, run through the bedroom & are out in the streets, blasting one of the great guitar albums in the past couple minutes. NON-RETURNABLE. NO EXPORT TO EU/UK
STREET DATE 3/19. Solo guise of Jimy SeiTang (PSYCHIC ILLS, RHYTON). Gauzy electronic music reminiscent of Gas & the classic era of Mille Plateaux & Chain Reaction, w/ nods to Manuel Gottsching & Popul Vuh. NO EUROPE
STREET DATE 3/19. Tyler's "70s singer-songwriter record; it just doesn't have any words." "William will worry a phrase - some tangled chordal wormhole - until you are certain it's all that exists" NO CANADA/NO EXPORT
**EXCLUSIVE!! 03/19 STREET DATE. Ben Wildenhaus (FEDERATION X) is a guitar player on par with modern guys like Alan Bishop & Sandy Bull. Drawn to the vast space, windblown grit & non-Western twang of desert guitar/oud music, Wildenhaus has always made good use of tools like a light touch, melody & subtlety in his songs - this is music built around tones, careful dynamics & strange, non-linear melodies, played on guitar with sine wave generator & spare touches on looping pedals. "...creepy soundtrack ether, distilling bits of acoustic & electric guitar into swaths of slow, mesmerizing weirdness." - SPIN
