All a Blur showcases Daly’s body of work over the past 10 years. A full perspective of Daly’s recognizable style will be on display through a combination of art prints, show posters, and paintings.
Mat Daly is a printmaker and painter with a singular style informed as much by impressionism and Japanese block printing as by a fascination with the evolution (and de-evolution) of digital imagery. Daly’s current work explores the visual recreation of memories, prominently featuring natural spaces and landscapes. He looks to capture the energy of a space as experienced through the distorting lens of memory.
Daly’s screen printed posters have become a mainstay of the indie music, art, and craft scenes, covering the walls of rock clubs, record stores and galleries throughout Chicago and beyond. In addition to being the principal poster designer for the nationally acclaimed Renegade Craft Fair, Mat's past clients range from The Hideout to The MoMA.
The opening will include live music from Nick Butcher and Jordan Martins. Nick, an artist from the Sonnenzimmer collective makes handmade electronic music from cheap consumer goods (tape players, radios, record players) and a computer. For this special performance, his rickety, static-laden ambient pop tunes enriched by guitar accompaniment from Jordan, another prominent Chicago artist and musician.
