saki newsletter 7/9/13!

Well, hey guys! How ya doin'? Did you come away from the holiday with all your limbs in tact? We did! We also had a great time with Mat Daly's art opening, featuring a live set from Nick Butcher and Jordan Martins, Off the Record with Owen and Graham Elliot, and an awesome birthday party/in-store from Today's Hits, The Lemons, and Joe and Otis! We'd like to thank all of those people, as well as Polyvinyl, Chicago's DCASE, Tripp Tapes, and all of you for coming out!

We've got another fun one this week, with Mike Sheehan's 'A Fine Lineup' on Thursday, the legendary Come playing an Epitonic saki Session on Friday, an awesome young touring band, Speedy Ortiz playing on Saturday with our friends, The New Diet, and M.O.T.O with Mike Felten on Sunday!

A Fine Lineup is a standup comedy show curated by one of Chicago's finest, Mike Sheehan. Mike chose a few other comics who he felt are 'comic's comics,' or standups who are well respected by their peers. Honestly, we've never had a BAD comedy show here, but this one will be extra special. Don't miss it!

We pinch ourselves every day when we wake up and remember that Come is going to play at our store. We really don't know what to tell you if you're not super excited for this one... check out the recent reissue of Eleven:Eleven if you need proof of Come's bonafides. It's a little early on a Friday afternoon, so you should all get out of work a little early for this one. Bring some drinks and go check them out Friday night at the Bottle too, if you can! If you can make it by 3, Touch and Go's Adam Reach is DJing before the band's set.

Saturday we've got new Carpark Records signees, Speedy Ortiz coming through. There only other show in town is a house show, so if you want to see them somewhere that doesn't smell like dirty underwear, come on by! We smell like clean underwear at worst! Speedy Ortiz is a really awesome young band that harkens back to 90's indie rock and pop-punk. If you're a fan of bands like Swearin' and Aye Nako, you'll definitely enjoy this one. The New Diet are opening!

On sunday we've got the hardest working one-man-band ever, M.O.T.O playing an in-store with Mike Felten! M.O.T.O always puts on a good show. If you haven't caught him before, come on by!
