saki newsletter 3/24/15!

Great news, everyone: FREAK HAPPENING is this week! That's right, this is the last week of the month, which means this Friday is the last Friday of the month, which means FREAK HAPPENING. Can you tell we're trying to get you to come to FREAK HAPPENING? COME TO FREAK HAPPENING ALREADY. This month we've got Charlie Bury, David Drake and Sonia Denis along with (we're sure) some other surprises. See you Friday!

This is also the last week to come check out Justin Santora's screenprints at saki. You can see a few of our favorites below, but trust us, you want to see it all. Justin is a supremely talented man, and a real sweetheart to boot!

We're also still getting ready for the behemoth that is RECORD STORE DAY. It's on April 18th this year. We'll be opening the doors at 9AM. If you have any questions beyond that, we'd like to direct you to our RSD page on the saki blog. There is not that much info there yet, but there will be soon. Keep checking!

Keep on reading for other info, including staff picks, the weekly 20% off new release sale, ticket giveaways and new releases!

Only a few more days to see Justin Santora's amazing work on our walls!

Not much new stuff this week, but we did get some nice restocks!

We got a shipment with a bunch of damaged items. They were too good to return, and the damages are only cosmetic, so we put them out at a DEEP discount. Check the used vinyl section next time you're in!

Nick and Adam stopped by Slippery Slope last Wednesday for their monthly Record Store Night!

Gilda and Bill T's are back in stock with a full run of sizes!

Saki hats are cool AND they keep your head warm.

20% off this week:

Robyn was our only employee who made it to SXSW this year. She picked a few of her favorite bands who played the festival, or as she puts it, "Bands I saw at SXSW that I can remember and that we have in stock."

Staff picks of the week:

Adam's Pick of the Week: Famous L. Renfroe - Children

There isn't a ton of verifiable info available about Famous L. Renfroe, or this, his sole album as far as I know. It seems that Renfroe recorded most of, if not all, of the record himself, and it shows. The arrangements are sparse, and the backing vocals are almost comically overdubbed.

If you like your gospel/soul a little on the strange side, this one will not disappoint. Children has the kind of heart that can only come from a 'mad genius' working out their singular vision without any interference. It's a must-buy for my money!

Jake's Pick of the Week: Eccentric Soul - Capitol City Soul

Numero Group makes themselves easy to love. With release after release of music that's flown under the radar, every one of their collections is worth the investment. Capitol City Soul is one that has a permanent spot in my record rotation, and each song will spend time stuck in your head. From the cover: "Capitol City Soul is a trove of completely unissued and underissued treasures from Moss and company. A decade in the making, this is the set of soul discoveries that no one but The Numero Group could achieve."

Ticket giveaways:

Buy a release from any band playing an upcoming Empty Bottle, Schubas or Lincoln Hall show and we can add you to the guest list. Stop in or give us a call! Keep an eye out for announcements for eligible Metro and Bottom Lounge shows too!
