saki newsletter 3/3/15!

Wait, it's March?? Did you guys know that? Months are weird, man... February was a good one though. Our guy Daniel Knox capped it off with TWO SOLD OUT shows at Constellation. Now he's heading to Europe for a tour with his Carrot Top Records brethren, The Handsome Family, and we couldn't be for excited for the whole dang family!

We're going to start March off right with an opening reception for Justin Santora this Friday. You've no doubt seen Justin's work adorning the walls and windows of many Chicago establishments, but now you can come appreciate it under the hot lights of saki. We'll have the usual refreshments and AM Stations will be playing a live set. Come say hi!

We've got plenty of other stuff to tell you about, like new releases, ticket giveaways, new arrivals, etc... but we'll save the rest of it for the traditional newsletter format. Here you go!

We have tickets to see Sir Richard Bishop at Constellation!
They're yours with purchase of Tangier Sessions!

Lots of good stuff arrived this week! Here are just a few...

saki hats are cool AND they keep your head warm.

Staff picks of the week:

You can roll your eyes all you want, but I have zero regrets about taking this bad boy home after work one day recently. I don't feel a need to elaborate too lengthily on this album. We all know why it's good - "Just a Girl," "Spiderwebs," "Sunday Morning," hell, even, "Don't Speak" hits the spot every now and then, just like it did when we all first fell in love with this gem two decades ago. So c'mon - pick this baby up. You know you wanna. Make Gwen proud. - Anne
Baked seem to distill just about everything I love about indie rock from the past 30+ years: Detached, sometimes bordering on monotonous vocals? Check. Jangly guitars? Check. Beefy guitars? Check. Odd, dark atmospherics? Check. Psych-stoner leanings? Check. Pummeling rhythms? Check. It's all here. It's often not all in the same song, which can make for somewhat uneven listening, but what Baked lack in consistency of sound, they make up for in proficiency. Whatever they're doing, they do it very, very well. It's no surprise that Baked boasts members of multiple well-respected Brooklyn DIY outfits from recent years. They've clearly learned a lot along the way. - Adam
