saki newsletter 6/9/15!

It's getting toasty around here, folks! For us that means more reggae and less pants - get ready to see these record store employee gams! We're going to crank up the AC (if it doesn't break on us again... and again) and get ready for a fun summer of in-stores, art shows, and comedy. Hopefully we'll see you soon!

Here's what's coming up:

Peregrine Angthius' art opening is this Friday! Peregrine was born near the end of the eighties to a couple of weirdos who decided to move to the woods; she currently lives in Chicago with her animal friends. She graduated with a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts with an illustration focus from Kendall College of Art and Design in 2011.

"Nothing Left" is Peregrine's first solo exhibition since moving to Chicago; it is a collection of work that represents the doubt, sadness, and mania that moving to a new place can elicit. The event will feature a live music set by DJ Wild Jesus. It's free and BYOB!

On Saturday we have a record release in-store for The Bribes' "Nobody Got Anywhere!" They'll be joined by Bad Bad Meow and Baby Money. That's THREE great locals bands for the price on NONE. What a deal!

Here are some things we were talking about on Instagram, etc. this week!

We still have some shirts from our friend, Dmitry Samarov! They're comfy grey t-shirts with Dmitry's 'Chicago Sewer' design on the front.

We've been reppin' hard for our buddies in Sewingneedle. We've even heard people say (and it was someone besides us) that this is possible the best local release of the year... whaaaaa? Seriously!

We snagged a few copies of this very limited run reissue from Maplewood Records. It's real trippy psych rock with a little prog flavor. This is great stuf from a basically unknown band. Check it out!

Restocks and recent arrivals are always coming through the door!
Make sure you check instagram, etc. regularly to get all the updates.

More restocks and new arrivals!

Pork Magazine sent us some new zines! We've still got the last issue too. We really don't want to toss them, but we'll have to make room soon, so come get one of each!

Pitchfork Fest picks! This week we're celebrating Day Two of Pitchfork Music Festival 2015. Stay tuned for more deals and TICKET GIVEAWAYS for Pitchfork Fest, coming soon!

Staff Picks:

Anna's Pick of the Week: Sam Cooke - Encore

Recorded in California in 1958, this record still maintains it's elegance and swing to this day. Sam Cooke is an early soul singer, among the likes of Ray Charles and Otis Redding.

Side A is the quicker pop tunes (like Accentuate the Positive) and side B has the more low key love songs (such as Today I Sing the Blues). Your dinner party guests will be humming this soundtrack long after dessert

Adam's Pick of the Week: John Fahey - Volume 1: Blind Joe Death

A reissue of the third, and arguably best version of John Fahey's classic debut album, rerecorded for the stereo market. While the first two versions of the album are significant, this version has cleaner recordings and in Fahey's own opinion, more polished technique.

If you've ever plucked a guitar string you need this album.
