saki newsletter 4/7/15!

Nothing too crazy to report this week - just a small, but very strong batch of new releases, including Toro Y Moi, the re-release of Mitski's Bury Me At Makeout Creek on Don Giovanni, and a new one from Weed. We'll also be at the CHIRP Record Fair this Saturday! Other than that we're gonna get right back to RECORD STORE DAY.

Last week we announced the day's lineup and offered some info on our first two scheduled performers of the day, Cheap Girls and Advance Base. If you're not already acquainted with those bands, go back and check that out. We think you'll love them as much as we do. So, here, again, is the full lineup, followed by more info on our 3rd and 4th performers of the day, Oshwa and Sleeping Bag!

1pm - Cheap Girls (acoustic)
2pm - Advance Base
3pm - Oshwa (Alicia solo)
4pm - Sleeping Bag
5pm - Supreme Nothing
6pm - The Sueves

Oshwa

Pictured above is Oshwa's lead singer, Alicia Walter. We found a picture of her by herself, not because we don't think the rest of the band is very handsome, but because Alicia will be pulling solo duty for us on RSD. With some bands that might be a bit of a letdown, but Oshwa started as a solo project for Alicia, and while their full band experience is essential, we know Alicia can put on a captivating performance on her own.

Oshwa have graced our stage a few times (though it's been a while) and we're always amazed at how their sound can twist and turn, always sounding familiar, but increasingly complex and different each time. Alicia's solo set will be yet another opportunity to experience Oshwa's music in a new way. We're guessing it's going to sound something like a mix of early tUnE-yArDs and Dirty Projectors, which is A-OK with us!

Sleeping Bag

Sleeping Bag began as a solo drum project for Dave Segedy in Bloomington, Indiana. They've since become a three-piece and developed into one of the best bands in a growing crop of 90's slacker rock revivalists. Sleeping Bag veer towards the pop side of that crop, with Segedy's knack for melody always present, even shining through his somewhat detached vocals. On their most recent release for Joyful Noise, they've found a slightly darker edge. The songs are just as infectious, but the sound is heavier. It's an exciting progression for the band. We've been trying to have these guys at the shop for a long time now. We can't wait to hear them on Record Store Day!

For more info on our RSD festivities, including an up-to-date list of in-stock RSD releases, keep an eye on our RSD page, as we will add new info there first! We may even have one or two more special in-stores and other details to announce.

Here's a few other things we were talking about on Instagram, etc. this week!

Recent arrivals and restocks from last week, including Anika, Broken Water, Implodes, Lightning Bolt, and more!

Speaking of "and more," here are more restocks and new arrivals from last week, including James Blackshaw, Menace Beach, The Everly Brothers, and various Morricone soundtracks on vinyl!

We also had a solid in-flux of used vinyl, all in great shape, and quite a few that are hard to find!
7"s from our batch of used vinyl new arrivals, including multiple Pierced Arrows (post-Dead Moon) singles, a 4-way split of AC/DC covers (including Shellac and US Maple), and plenty more not pictured here!

Gilda and Bill T's are back in stock with a full run of sizes!

Saki hats are cool AND they keep your head warm.

Jake's pick: The Melton Brothers Band - Livin' In The City LP

This is the first and only release from The Melton Brothers Band, Livin' in the City. It has all the makings of a great soul record: soaring vocals, keyboard workouts, and addicting boom-bap that simply makes you want to move. A must have for anyone with ears to listen to it.
