MORE LIKE AN OCEAN: Windshowers by Paul Richardson & Mary Rothlisberger

Spring = kites, right? Correct. Now that we all agree, let's celebrate kites, pinwheels, mobiles, and other works that shift and sway. We've got an art opening this Friday, April 5th that we have been super excited about for a long while. Our space is being decked out with bird mobiles, kites, and poster-sized drawings. This project is called MORE LIKE AN OCEAN: Windshowers by Paul Richardson & Mary Rothlisberger! Come early for an edition of kite coloring books with colored pencils! This has to be fun. Plus, local favorite Ryley Walker will lull us into an atmospheric daze with his guitar pickin' magic.

saki is thrilled to present Anne Benjamin: Prints & Posters.

Anne Benjamin is an illustrator, designer and printmaker living and working in Chicago. Anne learned letterpress, screen-printing, and other print methods through the vibrant Chicago printmaking community. Her design sense is broad and playful, drawing from the art deco, art nouveau, and pop art movements, classic children’s book illustrations, and vintage animation.

Anne has done illustration and design work for the likes of the Washington Post, American Greetings, Random House, Schubas, Time Out, and Paramount. In her free time, Anne enjoys tinkering in embroidery and ceramics. Benjamin has displayed work at Mondo Gallery in Austin, Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles, Chicago Cultural Center, Open-End Gallery in Chicago, and Loyola University Museum of Art.

TONIGHT is the opening reception of Balance: Photographs by Amanda Olbrys. We'll be celebrating from 6-9pm with a live set from The Blast Beats, beverages from Metropolitan Brewing, and hors d'oeuvres from saki.

Balance will highlight photographs that create a sense of balance and understanding within a moment in time. The work as a whole focuses on composition and lighting to share the relationship between the subject and its surroundings. The square format and soft focus assists in the study of design and harmony.

saki is thrilled to present "Fug Comics," an exhibition of FugScreens comic-oriented prints.

"Fug Comics" is artwork by Zissou Tasseff-Elenkoff, the owner and operator of FugScreens Studios. Tasseff-Elenkoff specializes in commissioned gig posters and personally designed fine art prints. His fascination with color and form is expressed through his highly individualistic style. Tasseff-Elenkoff's work is acclaimed at an international level for his ability to impact and communicate with a varied audience. Tasseff-Elenkoff's latest endeavor is the opening of Galerie F, Chicago's latest art gallery and retail shop with an emphasis on printmaking and street art.

In 2012 alone, FugScreens has been represented around Chicago at Black Cloud Gallery, Maxwell Colette Gallery, I Am Logan Square, Chicago Journeyman Plumber's Union, and Strange Beauty Salon, as well as shows in Liverpool and London.

Weegee Squirrel IPA

Weegee's Lounge has a special tap this weekend - the Weegee Squirrel IPA (12%abv), a Rye IPA brewed using Weegee's own home grown hops. All proceeds go to the Chicago Police Memorial Fund, to help Operation Santa, and make Christmas a little bit better for police families.

Trivia Night & Beer Draft @ saki 6/24!

Join us at saki on Friday, June 24th from 7-9pm for our first ever Beer Draft and Trivia Night! Now, I know what you're thinking. You're thinking Beer Draft, yeah, I know what that is, but what's this Trivia thing you speak of? Or is it the other way around. Yeah, it's the other way around. Let me explain!

The Beer Draft is the bastard cousin of the beer exchange. Each participant brings one beer to contribute to the draft field. You most likely won't be drinking the beer you bring, so pick something that you think others might like! When you enter your beer, you will draw a number. That number will be your picking position in the draft. Now hang out and answer some trivia questions and wait your turn! When the time comes you can pick any beer you like from the draft field and enjoy!

To cap off this awesome night we'll have a performance from Dey Industries' Bob Dey's Tank Engine Man.

The hop-heads at Dogfish Head have something new boppin'. In honor of the 40th anniversary of Miles Davis' jazz-rock masterpiece, Bitches Brew, the Delaware brewery has unveiled an eponymous beer.

According to the Dogfish site, their sudsy homage is a, "bold, dark beer that's a fusion of three threads imperial stout and one thread honey beer with gesho root." The bottle's label will sport the album artwork of Miles' groundbreaking 1970 double LP.

No word as to whether Miller-Coors plans to offer Kind of Blue Moon.

It would suck anyway.

Bitches Brew (the beer) will be available August 31.

The new meaning of "throw it back"

I'm a Cubs fan. I hate most other Cubs fans. But not this guy.

Perhaps this can become the new tradition whenever a Cubs player hits a homer.
